A new research facility to appear in St. Petersburg

The construction of the new research facility affiliated with the University is to be over at the end of 2012 – beginning of 2013, Polytechnic University Rector Andrei Rudskoy stated at RIA Novosti media center.

Project investments amount to 1.2 bln rubles; 300 mn are allocated from the federal budget, and 28 mn are to allocated from non-government sources by the end of the year.

Zero construction phase of the facility has been completed. The facility, whose floor area is 25000 sq.m., will house researchers in nanotechnology, bioengineering, medicine.

The new research center affiliated with Polytechnic University and having a floor area of 25000 sq.m., will host the best academics and researchers of St. Petersburg involved in innovation programs in the area of nanotechnology, bioengineering, medicine.

«This research facility is to replace outdated research institutes in St. Petersburg and give a comprehensive approach to today’s technology challenges» , said Andrei Rudskoy.

The Center’s construction will take into account all the requirements of today’s research work. For instance, the laboratories where research and experiments with nanomaterials will be carried out will have an extra solid foundation.

«When working with microscopic objects and appropriate equipment, there must be no vibrations, which means that the floor and walls must meet special requirements. There will be a special ventilation system, and a convenient layout for researches. We developed the layout at the project initial development stage», explained Andrei Rudskoy.

The construction of the research facility at St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University is carried out in the framework of the federal target program titled «Research and development in the priority areas of the research and technology complex of Russia for 2007-2012».
